An 11-year-old girl who had been reported missing was found murdered and her body dumped in a sack in Manyani area, Mjambere Location in Kisauni Sub-County, Mombasa County.
Police said the body of the minor was discovered on Sunday morning after members of the public alerted officers from Mjambere Police Station about a suspicious sack lying in an open ground.
According to police, officers from the station, accompanied by detectives and scenes of crime personnel, visited the scene and established that the body of an African female juvenile had been tied with ropes on the legs, hands and around the neck.
The victim’s eyes had also been covered with a piece of cloth before the body was wrapped in a blanket, placed inside a sack and dumped at the site.
The deceased was later identified as the one who had earlier reported a missing child at Junda Police Post at about 7am on Sunday.
Police said the girl had gone missing from their home in Kagujo on Saturday at around 4pm before her body was discovered the following morning.
The body was moved to the Coast General Hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination as detectives launched investigations into the murder.
Authorities have appealed to members of the public with information that could assist in the investigations to report to the nearest police station.
Elsewhere, a 67-year-old man was found murdered inside his house in Kadzuhoni village in Magarini Sub-County, Kilifi County.
Police said the body of Charo Kazungu Mrima was discovered on Sunday morning after villagers raised the alarm when they noticed he had not been seen for some time.
Officers from Gongoni Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Magarini visited the scene and established that the elderly man had been killed inside his house.
The body was found lying naked on the bed with visible signs of strangulation.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased lived alone. His grandson reportedly visited him in the morning and discovered that he was dead before alerting neighbours and authorities.
Police processed and documented the scene before moving the body to the Malindi Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Detectives have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
