2nd Lieutenant Isaac Lenkume
On August 7, 2026, 2nd Lieutenant Isaac Lenkume officially received his commission as an officer in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). The commissioning took place at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) in the United Kingdom.
2nd Lt Lenkume completed the 44-week Regular Commissioning Course at Sandhurst. This program is structured into three distinct phases:
- Junior Term: Focused on foundational military skills, fieldcraft, physical fitness, and basic leadership.
- Intermediate Term: Centered on advanced leadership, command training, team leadership, operational planning, and decision-making.
- Senior Term: The final phase, which applies leadership and tactical skills through complex military exercises, culminating in final assessments.
His commissioning was formalized during the Sovereign’s Parade, which is the traditional graduation ceremony held at Sandhurst for passing-out officer cadets.
Kenya’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, H.E. Maurice Makoloo, publicly extended official congratulations to the new officer. In his remarks, High Commissioner Makoloo noted the following:
- The feedback provided by Lenkume’s commander, fellow officers, and colleagues at Sandhurst was described as “truly inspiring.”
- The High Commissioner stated that Lenkume had effectively “flown the Kenyan flag high” throughout his training tenure at the academy.

2nd Lt Isaac Lenkume is not the first Kenyan to graduate from Sandhurst. In fact, a total of 118 Kenyan cadets have trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst since 1960.

The two officers commissioned in 2019—2Lts Stephen Keiya and Sally Chebii—were among 33 international cadets out of 243 who were commissioned at that Sovereign’s Parade. Both are alumni of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, holding Bachelor of Science degrees in Disaster Management and International Diplomacy, and Civil and Structural Engineering, respectively.
With his commission now formally secured, 2nd Lt Isaac Lenkume transitions from the academy to active service within the Kenya Defence Forces.
