A student from the Mount Kenya University (MKU) was awarded a whooping Ksh269,400 from Igembe South Constituency Development Funds (CDF).
The constituency is represented by John Paul Mwirigi, who is the youngest Mp in parliament at the age of 25 and is studying at the same university, pursuing a degree in education.
The bursary was awarded to a student identified as Joses Mwiti Mutembei, who has a current excess fees of Ksh141,500, meaning he cannot be categorised as a needy student.
According to a fees statement in our possession, the student in question was able to pay a total of Ksh410,000 in a period of just five months.
The case could taint the image of Mr Mwirigi, who is said to have run a ‘clean’ campaign to beat established and wealthy politicians, despite having contested as an independent candidate.
However, the MP is not new to controversy, having been charged with helping a prisoner escape in 2018.

Mwirigi was arrested on November 27, 2018, for mobilising Probox and motorcycle drivers to oppose the then ongoing road safety crackdown.
The incidence happened in Tigania East, an area outside his area of jurisdiction.
For an MP who promised to support agribusiness activities, promoting entrepreneurship and nurturing talent, it is surprising that he is now supporting corruption and rewarding his cronies.
“Since I come from a humble background, I understand the issues that affect the residents. My key agenda will be to transform the lives of the people,” the MP promised during campaigns.
