That Raila Odinga is taking nothing to chance to dislodge President Uhuru from power has seen him fire his second campaign manager Willis Otieno and hire long time associate Joe Ager.
In total, Raila has had three managers now, which is in sharp contrast to the 2013 election where he stuck with Eliud Owalo, accused to have bungled the campaigns of that year.
Raila had initially hired University of Nairobi don Dr. Adams Oloo whose short stint ended abruptly as NASA settled on Raila as the joint presidential candidate. Willis, an advocate, was brought in just after presiding ODM Appeals Tribunal which quashed nominations of a number of powerful ODM MPs including Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo.
Initially seen as independent-minded, Willis is accused of being too close to NASA chief financier Jimmy Wanjigi, who, despite bankrolling the campaigns, is seen as a double agent working also for Jubilee.
Willis was also accused of not giving the campaign the oomph required even as Kahawa Tungu has learnt critical decisions were being made elsewhere.
It is unclear what role the lawyer is now performing but we have stumbled on a correspondence between NASA and the British High Commissioner to Kenya Nic Hailey where the NASA team is accusing Jubilee of setting up security forces to suppress voter turnout in NASA strongholds, trailing of Raila Odinga by a contingent of shadowy security officers as well as renting a premise neighboring the Karen home of the NASA Leader in what is seen as one way of blocking him from leaving the house in the event the August election turn chaotic.
To confirm the changes at the NASA Presidential Campaign Secretariat, the sternly worded letter has been signed by Joe Ager with the designation: “Head of NASA Presidential Campaign Secretariat”.
Ager concludes the letter by urging the British Ambassador to ‘initiate dialogue’ with the government of Kenya in a view to having the government desist from misusing security agencies and further poisoning the 2017 election environment.
