    Whatsapp Group Admin Arrested For Spreading Fake News

    fake newsLongton Jamil, an administrator of a popular Whatsapp group was arrested in Kitengela, Kajiado for sharing fake news.

    Kajiado county commissioner has confirmed the incident saying Jamil was detained at the Isinya Police station. He is said to have been posting alarming messages and even pictures of  dead bodies, the commissioner alluded.

    Mr Jamil however denied the charges saying he did not post such information and that the group members can post anything to the groups.

    The businessman said that he had already warned the Whatsapp group members not to  post unverified information.

    Acting CS for Interior Security, Dr Fred Matiang’i also warned social media users against spreading false information that would cause panic among Kenyans.

    He said that the pictures and videos circulating on the interwebs on police brutality were false or from the 2007/ 08 post election violence.
