    6 Month Old, Samantha Pendo Assaulted By Police During Kisumu Protests Dies

    The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu, Kenya. Established in 1952, the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu is a 61-bed acute care facility offering quality health care. The Hospital provides general medical services, specialist clinics and high-tech diagnostic services, and has a well-equipped 24-hour Emergency Department. It is part of the Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) international referral system, with links to the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi and Karachi respectively.

    Samantha Pendo, the 6 month old baby hit by police during violent protests in Kisumu after Uhuru Kenyatta’s win, has succumbed to her injuries.

    Samantha Pendo was rushed to the Aga Khan hospital where she was died on Tuesday evening.

    Pendo has been in a coma for the past two days following the 2 am incident.

    According to Aga Khan medical superintendent Sam Oula the girl died a few minutes after six o’clock.

    “The baby suffered internal bleeding as a result of pressure build-up in the head,” Sam said.

    The deceased’s mother, Lenser Achieng said the anti-riot police threw tear gas canisters into their home.

    She sustained abdominal injuries as she tried to rescue her baby. Her father, Joseph Abanja has asked Kenyans to stand with them in seeking justice for their baby.

    Calm has since returned in Kisumu and residents resumed daily routines.
