Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja has introduced a new dress code for county workers.

He said county workers will be required to dress ‘decently.’

The male workers will be required to wear a suit and tie while the  women are not allowed to put on ‘provocative dresses.’

Workers who fail to adhere to this directive will apparently face disciplinary action.

“We want to move away from the past where staff used to dress poorly. We have introduced the new dress code to ensure decorum in the public service.

“There will be no excuse for not being smart while on duty. There are cheap suits and ties for workers who might not have them,” said the county chief of staff, Philemon Mwaisaka.

However workers protested that the new directive was harsh especially for junior employees who earned meager salaries. They said that suits were an expensive investment.

One of the residents said, “We are not opposed to the new law. The new administration should know that suits are expensive and unaffordable to the junior staff who earn meager salaries.”

They also said that most workers were field officers and engineers and therefore would be impractical to operate machines in suits.
