    Sigoti Girls Dormitory Catches Fire, School Shut Down

    Sigoti Girls’ School in Nyakach, Kisumu county on Saturday morning caught fire.

    A dormitory is said to have burned down completely. The school together with the students lost their property.

     

    The fire  reportedly started at around 9 pm and the cause still unknown.

    No one was injured during the incident.

    Henry Malova, Nyakach OCPD said that the fire was contained before it could spread to other parts of the school.

    He also said that investigations were ongoing.

    Moi Girls’ School, Nairobi also caught fire on Saturday morning killing 7 students and injuring 16 others.

    CS Education, Fred Matiang’i who was at the scene said that the government would settle the hospital bills for the injured. He also said that investigations into the cause of fire were underway and perpetrators would be prosecuted.

    “The cause of the fire is yet to be known. Police and the school administration are conducting a roll call to identify the dead. We have commenced probe but those culpable will be prosecuted,” Dr Matiang’i said.

    He directed that the school remains closed.
