    plastic bagsMichael Nene, a Nairobi Trader was caught by National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) with 10 tonnes of already banned plastic paper bags.

    He was caught selling the bags at his shop along the busy Moi Avenue, Nairobi.

    Michael argued that he had already bought the stock before the ban was effected. NEMA officials on the other hand insisted that he was supposed to take the papers to NEMA linked areas for recycling

    Njoki Mukiri, NEMA County Director confirming the incident said that they will confiscate them before taking to NEMA.

    The ban on the secondary use of plastic paper bags was gazetted on February and was effected on 28th August, 2017.

    Those found violating the law risk a two year jail term or Ksh. 4 million.
