    Government Set To Construct Second Runway At JKIA

    jkiaThe Government currently putting together plans for the construction of a second runway at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

    The Kenya Airports Authority says the Treasury is looking to African Development Bank (AfDB) to help finance the construction of a second runway at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

    “The Treasury will be meeting with AfDB bank, which is funding the project to discuss the financing element of the second runway,” said KAA Head of Finance Alex Gitari.

    According to KAA, the construction of the second runway has been delayed for the last four years due to the lack of proper funding.

    They sent out a notice to all consultants interested in biding for the tender estimated at Sh37 billion.

    “The consultant is expected to review the designs and ensure that the project is implemented in accordance with the general and particular conditions of the contract, the technical specifications, and engineering drawings,” said the notice.

    The new runway will be able to accommodate 45 planes compared the current one that can only handle 25.
