Ex-Nakuru Police Boss Mwanzo To Face Disciplinary Action Over Evictions – DP Gachagua

A former Nakuru County police chief will face disciplinary action for his role in the eviction of more than 100 families, deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has said.

Peter Mwanzo, a former commander of the Nakuru Police, is reported to have secretly overseen the eviction of 105 households from Keriko in the Subukia sub-county, Gachagua said on Saturday.

“Any police commander should notify the county security committee and intelligence before executing any orders for eviction,” said the DP.

“I am very ashamed to stand here as Deputy President after our police officers oversaw such an incident. The work of the police is to serve and protect and not to oversee the damage of property.”

The former Mathira MP further sounded a warning to all civil servants saying that the Kenya Kwanza government will deal with those still loyal to the former regime.

“I want to tell officers who have such habits to change immediately. Any police commander who conducts such evictions without consulting the County security and intelligence committee will be acting alone. We’ve already removed the county police commander who oversaw the operations and we will take action against him,” said Gachagua.

The deputy president also forwarded the matter to the Attorney General to advice on the best way forward.

Since then, Mwanzo has been recalled to the Police headquarters in Nairobi’s Vigilance House.

Mwanzo was redeployed from Nairobi, where he was the Kasarani Deputy County Police Commander, to Nakuru, where he had worked for less than a year.

He is credited with eliminating “confirm” gang in Nakuru.
