sonkoOn Tuesday, Nairobi Governor settled a Sh185,000 medical bill following outrage by several youth at the Nazareth Hospital mortuary.

This came after the youth stormed the mortuary demanding for the body of John Mwangi to be released after it had been held for almost a month.

The angry youth were joined by MCAs Mwaura Samora and Nancy Monyangi.

Monyangi says the family of the deceased had been struggling to clear the accumulating medical bill and were not sure on the next step of action.

Despite efforts from the family the hospital insisted on holding the body until the medical bill was paid. Once the situation seemed unsolvable they reached out to Nairobi Governor to help settle the bill.

According to Director of governors’s press service Joab Mwaura the incident was resolved by Sonko’s Rescue Team.

The Nazareth Hospital Administrator claims the family failed to pick him from the hospital until they were contacted about his death.

“It was recently when Mwangi approached us with Sh2,000 but, the bill had accumulated to Sh170,000. We asked for an increase, but instead, they stormed the hospital accompanied by many other people,” he conveyed.

Despite settling the bill tension was high as the youth continued to demand for the release of the body, however, the hospital had to await confirmation of payment from the Nairobi Governor.

The body of the deceased will be buried at a public cemetery in Kiambu County.
