Microsoft is going down down and down to the grassroots with the hope of getting more of the population on board. The tech giant was last year in various counties in Kenya (they were districts then) to show case some of the innovative products they have as well as carry out various charitable initiatives. This weekend, Microsoft was at Kenyatta University where a very thoughtful group (Africa MathScience, Technology, Research and Education Foundation) led by Kerine Menya, were mentoring students and teachers from various secondary and primary schools on Mathematics and Sciences.

It is at this event that Microsoft represented by Alex Nyingi who is the Project Manager on Academic Programs at Microsoft East Africa, launched the schools targeted Microsoft Mathematics 4.0. The program seeks to make it easier for the students to learn Mathematics and remove the stigma attached to it. This stigma can be curbed by making the learning process very interesting.  A Mr Okewa from Maranda High School, met the Microsoft official at the venue and immediately found it nice to sell the idea to the students and teachers from the schools. You can solve most of the engineering Mathematics with it and so this program will be useful also to those in Colleges doing courses like Computer Science.

Microsoft Mathematics also gives the students and teachers to plot their graphs in 2D and 3D, ability to step-by-step solve equation. You can get to check out the program from this link. The Software is absolutely free and very gently on the memory of the computers. I had a chance to talk to Mr Okewa from Maranda. Find the Maths 4.0 Demo video Below.
