    ‘Resist’ Merchandise Gets Kilifi Politician Arrested For Promoting ‘Incitement’

    resistAn Orange Democratic Party politician from Kilifi was on Sunday, according to locals arrested for handing out National Resistance Movement (NRM) branded T-shirts.

    Nicholas Mrima Wanyepe was accused by the police of being in possession of material that could incite the people against the government.

    Mrima vied for the Kilifi South constituency seat but lost to Ken Chonga in the August 8 elections.

    He, according to the police knows where NASA leader, Raila Odinga will be sworn in.

    “The politician will be arraigned in court today (Monday)”, said Ben Kogo, Kilifi county police commander.

    But opposition youth leaders from the coastal region have said that they have been receiving threats to life in a bid to silence them. For instance, Kilifi County NASA coordinator Leah Akech is in hiding citing intimidation.

    Also, Martin Otieno a print and design shop owner was attacked by ‘people well known to him.’ A petrol bomb was lobed into his shop along River Road in Nairobi just before he made his RESIST merchandise delivery to Kisumu.

    Otieno, suffered 80 per cent burns and died four days after the attack.

    Kilifi Governor, Amason Kingi said that they (leaders) will take action should Wanyepe not be released today(Monday)

    “The charges are that he was in possession of hate materials and that he was distributing T- shirts against President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration,” Kingi said.

    “If he will not have been released by Monday afternoon then as leaders, we shall know the next step to take.”
