    International Monetary Fund Appoints Kenyan To Head Internal Audit

    International Monetary Fund (IMF) has appointed Nancy Asiko Onyango as Director of the Fund’s Office of Internal Audit and Inspection (OIA).

    Through its Managing Director Christine Lagarde, IMF said Ms. Onyango, will succeed Clare Brady, who left the Fund earlier this Fall. Her appointment will take effect in February 2018.

    The OIA conducts independent examinations of the IMF’s internal control and governance processes.

    “Ms. Onyango brings to the Fund more than 25 years of experience in internal audit, strategic risk management, corporate governance, and IT risk management,” Ms. Lagarde said.

    Ms. Lagarde described Ms. Onyango as passionate about empowering women and girls, notably in harnessing their leadership potential and is a Global Give Back Circle mentor to girls from disadvantaged backgrounds.

    “I have full confidence that the OIA will continue to thrive under Nancy’s leadership,” Ms. Lagarde said.

    Ms. Onyango has significant international, continental and regional experience gained in the United Kingdom, Europe, and Africa. She has worked across several industry sectors, including financial services, and with several governments, development agencies, and non-governmental organizations. Most recently, she was the CEO at Reliance Risk Advisory Solutions based in Kenya. Before that she was a Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Kenya.

    She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)and also holds a doctorate degree in Business Administration from the United States International University—Africa in Nairobi in conjunction with the Columbia Business School, specializing in gender leadership and organizational change management, amongst other degrees.

    Nancy also holds several international certifications from global institutions such as the Information Systems Audit and Control Association and the Institute of Internal Auditors.
