Safaricom Silently Re-Launches its ‘Big Box’ Android Box

Safaricom is bringing back the Big Box which failed miserably in the first launch.

While the problems of the Android Boxes were not unique to Safaricom, the telco now hopes that it can do much better with now more than 200,000 homes covered with its Home Fibre while the uptake is growing at a very rapid rate.

The Android Box is going to be like any others but will have the Showmax and hopefully the Viusasa app at a later stage to encourage viewing of local and regional shows. It will have the ability for users to add the Kodi app which allows users to watch many more pirated shows through their internet links.

Not that the Safaricom Big Box really went away for long but it has been on retail silently in shops and among staff members for test purposes.

The Big Box comes bundled with SIM card and data bundles (5GB) plus three months subscription to Showmax if you purchase the Ksh 10,000 bundle. If you are already connected to Safaricom Home Fibre (formerly Vuma), you will get it for Ksh 6,000.

It might not be easy for Safaricom to crack the market with such a device which might probably have lower specs than the most common Android box in the market, the X96 Mini. It has been greatly improved from the previous MXq Pro.
