There was a surprisingly low turn out of people turning out to celebrate Jamhuri day celebrations at the Kasarani stadium.
This is quite a contrast from the barely two weeks ago when the president Uhuru Kenyatta was inaugurated at the same venue.
This will be the first National holiday to be presided over by president Uhuru Kenyatta after he took over his second and last term.

Contrary to the swearing in the number of dignitaries in attendance is fairly scarce.
The president Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to provide a road map for the country in terms of how he is going to unify the country that was divided by the just concluded general elections.
He is also expected to comment on the state of the economy and what is expected to achieve within the next term in terms of securing economic growth for the country.
This Jamhuri day marks 54 years since Kenya gained independence from colonial rule.
