    Former Standard Group journalist Robert Nyasato was Sunday seriously injured in a road accident along the Kisii-Nyamira Road.

    A passenger in the car identified as Chief (Rtd) Cosmas Mocha died in the accident at Gesarara area, police said.

    This is after the car Nyasato was driving was involved in a head on collision.

    He was rushed to a hospital in Kisii town. There were plans to transfer him to Tenwek Hospital for specialized treatment.

    Police said they are investigating the accident.

    Elsewhere, a student aged 19 years who was waiting to join University this year perished in a road accident after he was hit by a police vehicle at Kanga area along Migori-Rongo road.

    Witnesses said the deceased, identified as Tony Onyango who was carrying a minor on a motorcycle was hit by the vehicle and died on the spot.

    The police vehicle involved in the accident sped off after the accident on Saturday evening.

    Officials said the student died on the spot and the pillion passenger sustained injuries and was rushed to Rongo sub county hospital for treatment.

    He was from a cyber café where he had gone to apply for a course online.

    Police are investigating the incident.
