    Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were was shot four times, bodyguard didn’t respond

    Fresh details have emerged how Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were was Wednesday evening shot and killed by gunmen who had trailed him in Nairobi.

    Preliminary findings show he was shot at least four times by a gunman who had alighted from a motorcycle for the mission.

    This was as his salon car was stuck in a traffic jam near the City Mortuary roundabout.

    The gunman first shattered the window of the act before pumping bullets into his chest.

    Witnesses saw at least four bullet wounds on the body. One bullet had shattered his left hand, a witness said.

    The MP was driving in a salon car when he was shot st close range at the City Mortuary roundabout.
    He was seated in the co-driver seat at the time of the incident while his bodyguard was in the rear seat. The bodyguard panicked on hearing the bullets and did not react in any way. He told police he did not hear anything but realized his boss was bleeding.

    The driver too said he saw the gunman alight from a motorcycle where he was a pillion passenger before he opened fire.

    He went cold and immobile unsure what to do. He was however able to drive the car to the hospital where the MP was pronounced dead. The seat where he was full of blood stains.

    He was rushed to the nearby Nairobi Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

    Witnesses said gunmen on a motorcycle had trailed him from Parliament to the scene of the shooting. It is not clear where he was headed.

    They shot him at close range after smashing the window pane of the car before jumping back to the waiting rider and they rode off.

    Police said the motive was not immediately known.

    Inspector General of police Douglas Kanja, Director DCI Mohamed Amin, Nairobi police boss George Seda and PS interior Raymond Omollo were among those at the hospital. His body lay at the emergency side as several colleagues rushed there to view it.

    Police later arrived at the entrance of the hospital and mounted a tape around Were’s car was as part of the probe into the murder. Amin said they are investigating murder.
