Jason Sudeikis, born Daniel Jason Sudeikis on September 18, 1975, in Fairfax, Virginia, is an American actor, comedian, writer, and producer.

Raised in Overland Park, Kansas, Sudeikis grew up in a family with ties to the entertainment industry, most notably through his maternal uncle, actor George Wendt, known for his iconic role as Norm Peterson on Cheers.

Sudeikis was born with anosmia, a condition that leaves him without a sense of smell, which he has humorously referenced in interviews.

His early passion for basketball led him to attend Fort Scott Community College on a scholarship, but he soon shifted his focus to comedy, performing with improv troupes like ComedySportz, iO Chicago, and The Second City.

    Siblings

Jason is the eldest of three children, with two younger sisters, Lindsay Sudeikis and Kristin Sudeikis, both of whom have carved out their own unique paths.

Lindsay Sudeikis pursued a career far removed from the entertainment spotlight, focusing instead on spiritual and ancestral healing.

She studied philosophy at The Catholic University of America and later earned a master’s degree in liberal studies from CUNY Graduate Center, with coursework in American studies and urban education.

Previously a high school teacher and basketball coach, Lindsay also spent time as a Catholic nun in Italy, living with 54 nuns from 16 different cultures.

Kristin Sudeikis, the other sibling, has made her mark in the creative world as a choreographer, dancer, and artistic director.

Based in New York City, she is the founder of FORWARD__Space, a dance, fitness, and wellness studio that has gained attention for its innovative approach to movement and community.

Kristin’s work emphasizes human connection through dance, and her studio has been publicly supported by Jason, who famously wore a tie-dye hoodie with the FORWARD__Space logo during his 2021 Golden Globe acceptance speech, highlighting their close sibling bond.

    Career

Sudeikis’ career began in the 1990s with improvisational comedy, performing at ComedySportz in Kansas City before moving to Chicago to hone his craft at the Annoyance Theatre, iO Theater, and The Second City.

His talent for improv led him to Amsterdam with Boom Chicago and later to The Second City Las Vegas, where he was a founding member.

In 2003, his uncle George Wendt recommended him to Saturday Night Live (SNL) producer Marci Klein, landing him a role as a sketch writer.

By 2005, Sudeikis became a featured player on SNL, and in 2006, he was promoted to repertory status, where he spent nine seasons (2005–2013) delivering memorable impressions of figures like Joe Biden and Mitt Romney.

His deadpan delivery and ability to play the straight man made him a standout, and he continued to make occasional SNL appearances after leaving in 2013, including hosting in 2021.

Beyond SNL, Sudeikis built a robust acting career with recurring roles in shows like 30 Rock (2007–2010), where he played Floyd DeBarber, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (2010–2011), as well as voice work in The Cleveland Show (2009–2013).

His film career took off with supporting roles in movies like What Happens in Vegas (2008) and The Bounty Hunter (2010), before landing leading roles in comedies such as Hall Pass (2011), Horrible Bosses (2011), and We’re the Millers (2013), the latter grossing $270 million globally.

Sudeikis also voiced characters in The Angry Birds Movie (2016) and Grand Theft Auto IV (2008).

His most celebrated role came with Ted Lasso (2020–2023), a series he co-created and starred in as the optimistic American coach of a British soccer team.

    Accolades

Sudeikis’ work, particularly with Ted Lasso, has earned him significant recognition in the entertainment industry.

For his role as Ted Lasso, he won two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and contributed to the show’s win for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Additionally, he secured two Golden Globe Awards for Best Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy in 2021 and 2022, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series.
