    Interior and National Administration CS Kipchumba Murkomen visited and engaged officers deployed to handle the 35th Saba Saba commemoration within the Nairobi Metropolitan area.

    Murkomen thanked all officers who worked tirelessly to protect lives and properties, while exercising restraint.

    He said the security structures put in place assisted to protect the critical infrastructure with the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD), its environs and other parts of the country, ensuring minimal damage.

    He, however, acknowledged that enhanced security measures inconvenienced many Kenyans who were unable to access their workstations. He said the measures were necessary to protect lives and property..

    “Those Kenyans inconvenienced as a result of this security situation, poleni sana, we wanted you to be safe and property safe.”

    “We thank you very much for the work you did today to secure people, their lives and their property. If it was not the work you did, we would be discussing the kind of damage we last week,” noted the CS.

    “I thought as we come to the end of the day, my team in the ministry and I should come to thank you and your colleagues across the country who have done their best to contain criminals and goons who infiltrated peaceful demonstrations. Because of your work today there was less damage than last time.

    “We understand the working conditions you operate in and the challenges you face.”

    According to the CS, political problems are not police problems but yet people who do not want to settle their political concerns in a peaceful manner drive police into the political discussions.

    He said a number of those who caused mayhem on June 25th have been arrested and others charged in court with terrorism.

    “We will arrest all suspects to protect all Kenyans and officers,” said the CS.

    Internal Security PS Raymond Omollo said: “We shall do everything to ensure our country is safe for people to express themselves and also go about their business without interruption,” said the PS.

    He said the Government was doing all it can to better equip and remunerate police so they can give their best to the country.

    IG Douglas Kanja and DIG Gilbert Masengeli were also present.

    At least 10 people were killed, 29 injured, two abducted and 37 arrested across 17 counties during the Saba Saba protests, KNHCR said.
