A 40-year-old man was stabbed and killed in an altercation in Nkiine, Meru County.
Police said Euticus Mugambi was stabbed in the neck and killed in the drama on Sunday night. It is not yet clear what prompted the altercation between the assailant and the deceased, police said as they moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy.
The assailant was later arrested from his home in the Mangaya area, police said.
Elsewhere in Homabay’s Wagogo village, a 16-year-old girl was found murdered and her body left on the bed. Police said the suspected assailant died by suicide after the incident.
His body was found hanging on a sisal rope tied around the neck and on a roof truss. It is suspected the assailant who was a worker at the home, killed the girl before dying by suicide. The motive was not immediately established.
The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.
In Holo, Kisumu County, a suspect who assaulted a man in a fight was lynched by a mob in an incident. The suspect was beaten to death before police were called to the scene.
In Funyula, Busia County, one Joseph Bahati, 40 was found dead on the roadside. The body was found on the Suongo-Burudu road, police said, adding it had a head injury inflicted by a blunt object.
Police said they are investigating the murder as they moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy.
Meanwhile, a gold mining site collapsed and killed two people in Bondo, Siaya County. Police said the incident happened on Sunday in Lenya area, killing one Kefa Odero, 40.
His body was retrieved on July 7 hours after the rubble had trapped him This increased to two, the number of those killed at the site, police said. Another body had earlier on been retrieved from the site and taken to a local mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.
Police said they are investigating the incident. There has been an increase in deaths at gold mining sites in the country amid an operation to contain the incidents.
