At least five suspects were Thursday arrested after they were involved in an abduction incident in Ruaka area, Kiambu County.

A man who was headed home was taken hostage by the gang and taken to Ithanga and Thindigwa areas where he was detained.

When his girlfriend called his mobile phone, a stranger picked it saying they needed Sh500,000 for his release, police said.

They handed him the mobile phone to confirm he was their captive and warned her against involving police.

Out of panic, the woman informed the police who swung into action and traced the gang to Ithanga area and Thindigwa. The

By then, some family members of the victim had sent Sh68,000 for his freedom.

Five suspects including a woman were arrested in a house where they were holding the victim, police said.

Police said they recovered a kitchen knife, a shock torch, ten mobile phones of different makes, one tablet, and two motor vehicles.

The victim was also assaulted by the abductors and had visible physical injuries all over the body and a bloodstained shirt, police said.

The victim was taken to hospital for medical attention.

Police said they are investigating to establish if the suspects have been involved in similar past incidents.

They were expected in court to face various charges, police said.

The family of the victim was reunited amid praises to police.

Cases of abduction have been on a declining trend due to police operations in various parts of the country.

Suspects who were linked to the incidents were arrested in police operations and are facing charges in courts.

Police also want victims or families of the crime to always report for action to be taken. This will among others help solve the cases for justice. Officials say some of the victims do not report the crimes.
