A 35-year-old man died after he was assaulted in an altercation with another man in a village in Ndhiwa, Homabay County.

The assailant escaped the Kopiyo village after learning Stephen Ochieng Genga had succumbed to the injuries. This followed an altercation between the assailant and the deceased.

Police said the deceased went to a local hospital for medical attention and was offered pain killers and told to seek further treatment in Homabay.

The family said they did not have funds for the treatment and took him home where his health deteriorated. He was rushed to a hospital on Saturday September 20, 2025 and succumbed while on the way, police said.

The body was moved to a local mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations. The hunt for the assailant is ongoing, police said on Sunday adding they were yet to establish the motive of the attack.

Elsewhere in Muthara, Tigania, Meru County, a man was stabbed and killed in Kaongo village in an altercation, police said.

Police said the body of Kathurima Munyi, 23 was found lying on a farm with a deep stab wound in the left thigh.

This followed a fight between the deceased and an assailant who escaped the scene.

A team of detectives is investigating the murder. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, police said.

Police said they are investigating claims the man was assaulted at a local shopping centre before he walked to the farm where his body was found emotionless.

In Gatunga area, Tharaka Nithi County, a man died after being hit by a falling tree.

Police said the deceased, identified as Daniel Nyaga Kamakia, was cutting an Acacia tree when it crushed him. He died on the spot.

The body was picked up and moved to a local mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations.
