Nairobi County Speaker Beatrice Elachi has rejected Governor Mike Sonko’s deputy governor nominee, Miguna Miguna, citing Article 78 of Constitution on dual citizenship.
According to the article clause two (2), “a State officer or a member of the defence forces shall not hold dual citizenship”.
Miguna holds Canadian Citizenship as well as Kenyan citizenship. However, authorities have held ground that Miguna is a Canadian citizen. The Immigration Department stated that Miguna denounced Kenyan citizenship at the time he acquired Canadian Citizenship, requiring him to re-apply for Kenyan citizenship.

He has since been deported to Canada twice in what has been seen as bad blood between him and the executive.
Miguna Miguna was nominated by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonke to fit in the shoes of Polycarp Igathe, who resigned from the City Hall.
