A High Court judge sitting in Kitale sentenced Emmanuel Wambwa Wakali, 26, to 50 years’ imprisonment for murdering his father.

Prosecution, led by Counsel Mark Mugun, called six witnesses whose evidence linked the accused to the brutal attack.

Justice R.K. Limo heard that on the night of September 27, 2024, the deceased and his son had retired to bed when the accused arrived home and began banging on the door, demanding entry.

When denied, he left and later returned around 2200 hours, appearing drunk.
He broke a window, entered the house, and assaulted the deceased with an electric cable while demanding his phone.

Witnesses told the court that when his brother and grandmother tried to intervene, the accused turned violent and continued beating his father with a “rungu” and the electric cable.
The deceased was later hidden in the grandmother’s kitchen for safety but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

In his defence, the accused blamed alcohol, claiming he had been drinking the entire afternoon. The court rejected this defence, finding that his actions showed control and deliberation.

In delivering the sentence, Justice Limo observed that the accused had previously assaulted his father, had shown no remorse, and failed to cooperate with probation officers.

The court praised Prosecution for concluding the matter on the first day of hearing and within a year of the offence.
