Kelly Ogden is an American punk rock musician, best known as the lead vocalist and bassist for the duo The Dollyrots.

Born on June 19, 1979, in the United States, Ogden grew up in Land o’ Lakes, Florida, where she first crossed paths with her future bandmate and husband, Luis Cabezas, in the eighth grade.

Her energetic stage presence, combined with her powerful vocals and bass skills, has made her a standout figure in the punk and garage rock scenes.

Beyond music, Ogden has ventured into acting, radio hosting, and even motherhood, often weaving these elements into her creative life.

    Siblings

Kelly has one sister, Katie Ogden, though specifics about Katie’s life or involvement in Kelly’s career are not widely documented.

Ogden has occasionally alluded to her family roots in interviews, crediting her Florida upbringing for shaping her resilient and fun-loving spirit.

    Career

Ogden’s career ignited in the early 2000s when she co-founded The Dollyrots with Luis Cabezas in Los Angeles, shortly after their college days in Florida.

The band quickly gained traction in the punk rock underground, releasing their debut album Group Therapy in 2001 under Lookout! Records’ Panic Button imprint.

Drawing from influences like girl groups, garage rock, and classic punk, Ogden’s songwriting and performances captured a blend of irreverent humor and raw energy.

The duo’s discography expanded to nine studio albums, including notable releases like Because I’m Awesome (2008) on Joan Jett’s Blackheart Records and Whipped Cream (2019) on Little Steven’s Wicked Cool Records, with several charting on Billboard.

Parallel to her band work, Ogden has built a multifaceted portfolio.

She has acted in television and film, appearing in episodes of CSI: NY, where The Dollyrots co-starred and she portrayed a character tied to a bass guitar murder plot, and contributing music to shows like Lost Girl and films such as The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 (2008) and Easy A (2010).

Her voice and songs have also featured in trailers, including Disney’s Brave (2012).

In 2019, Ogden launched The Kelly Ogden Show, a daily radio program on SiriusXM’s Underground Garage channel, airing from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. weekdays, where she spins tracks from the garage rock canon and shares her witty insights as a night owl host.

Additionally, she collaborates on side projects like Jaret and Kelly with Bowling for Soup’s Jaret Reddick, and in 2014, she started a blog chronicling the challenges and joys of balancing rock stardom with raising two young children while touring.

    Accolades

While The Dollyrots have not amassed mainstream award trophies, their track “Too Much Fun for My Health” from the 2022 double album Down the Rabbit Hole was named the “Coolest Song in the World” by Little Steven Van Zandt, a prestigious nod in garage rock circles that underscores Ogden’s curatorial influence on the genre.

Her radio show on Underground Garage has been celebrated for revitalizing early-morning programming, with SiriusXM highlighting her as a natural fit for the channel’s legacy.
