The tussle for Migingo Island in Lake Victoria took a new turn after Ugandan Authorities  closed down the only kindergarten in the island. The closure led the fishermen who are the residents in the area to protest.

The kindergarten was opened as a collaboration between the the locals and the assistant chief of the area.  The assistant chief Esther Masaku said that the Ugandan authorities stormed the two week old school claiming that Migingo was not in Kenya and therefore they would not allow the school to operate.

The assistant chief said that they agreed to close the school to avoid tensions between Kenyans and Ugandans residing in the island.

Kenyans on twitter have asked the president to try and resolve the Migingo issue as it has been going on for close to 15 years . Ugandan president, Yoweri Museveni earlier jetted into the country for the National Corridor Integration project (NCIP) and the residents are hoping that Migingo will be part of the talks.

Does @AMB_A_Mohammed, her counterpart @FredMatiangi and their boss @UKenyatta know a school on Kenyan soil has been closed down by an outside aggressor?
Will Migingo issue run on for 15 yrs without solution?

The assistant chief asked the relevant ministries to intervene as children in the area do not have access to education.
