Marcelo Magalhães Serrado is a renowned Brazilian actor, author, producer, and director born on February 10, 1967, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
He grew up in a family that included his parents, Maria de Lourdes Magalhães Serrado and Francisco de Assis Serrado, and has built a prolific career in television, theater, and film over nearly four decades.
Serrado has been married three times: first to actress Christine Fernandes from 1994 to 1999, then to Rafaela Mandelli from 2003 to 2006, and currently to Roberta Fernandes since 2012.
He is the father of three children, including daughter Catarina, born in 2004 from his relationship with Mandelli, and twin sons Felipe and Guilherme, born in 2013 with his current wife.
Siblings
Marcelo has an older brother named Eduardo, who lives with autism.
The actor has openly discussed the difficulties his family faced during Eduardo’s childhood, including dealing with societal prejudice and the challenges of finding appropriate education and support.
Serrado has spoken about how Eduardo attended a different school due to these issues, describing the early years as particularly tough for the family.
Career
Serrado’s career began after graduating from the Casa das Artes de Laranjeiras in 1985, with his television debut in 1987 on the Rede Manchete novela Corpo Santo.
He joined Rede Globo in 1989 with Pacto de Sangue and went on to appear in numerous telenovelas, including Desejo in 1990, Por Amor in 1997, and Pecado Capital in 1998.
A breakthrough came in 2011 with his memorable role as Crô in Fina Estampa, followed by Tonico Bastos in Gabriela in 2012.

Serrado also worked with other networks, starring as a protagonist in Record’s Prova de Amor in 2005 and Poder Paralelo in 2009, and in HBO Brasil’s Mandrake from 2005 to 2007.
Returning to Globo, he featured in hits like Velho Chico in 2016, O Sétimo Guardião in 2018, and Cara e Coragem from 2022 to 2023.
In theater, he has over 40 credits, debuting in 1986 and later producing and directing works such as Tom & Vinícius, o musical in 2008, where he portrayed Tom Jobim, and Os Vilões de Shakespeare in 2017.
His film roles include Super-Colosso: a Gincana da TV Colosso in 1995, Malu de Bicicleta in 2011, and Albatroz in 2016, along with voice work in animations like Sing in 2016 and Arca de Noé in 2024.
Additionally, Serrado has participated in reality shows, placing 12th on The Masked Singer Brasil in 2023, and competed on Dança dos Famosos in 2019.
Accolades
In 1999, Serrado won the Prêmio Coca-Cola de Teatro Jovem for Best Actor in Sobe o Pano.
He received the Prêmio Arte Qualidade Brasil in 2003 for Best Supporting Actor in Seja o que Deus Quiser and Best Actor at the Festival de Cinema de São Paulo for Noite de São João.
In 2007, the Troféu APCA honored him as Best TV Actor for Mandrake and Vidas Opostas.
Serrado took home another Prêmio Arte Qualidade Brasil in 2008 for Best Actor in Tom & Vinícius – O Musical.
For his film work, he won Best Actor at the Festival de Paulínia and the Prêmio Contigo! de Cinema Nacional in 2010 for Malu de Bicicleta.
His role in Fina Estampa brought multiple wins in 2011 and 2012, including Prêmio Quem de Televisão for Best Supporting Actor, Melhores do Ano, Prêmio Contigo! de TV, and Prêmio Extra de Televisão.
In 2012, he was also awarded the Special Celebration Award at the 15ª Brazilian Press Awards for his overall career achievements.
