    Falling tree fatally traps man, injures another one in Kisii

    A man was fatally injured after a falling tree trapped him in a village in Mosocho, Kisii County.

    Police said his friend and colleague was injured in the January 20 incident in Nyamondo village. The two men were cutting a eucalyptus tree when it accidentally fell on them, killing Wilson Makori, 44.

    The other colleague had bad injuries on his hand in the incident. He was rushed to a local hospital for specialized treatment, police said, adding the body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.

    Elsewhere in Ekerenyo village, Nyamira County, a man was found dead in a maize plantation. Police identified the deceased as Samuel Ogwankwa, 50 adding the body had multiple injuries in the belly, eyes which had been enucleated out and his skull.

    The motive of the murder was not immediately established, police said as they moved the body to the mortuary for autopsy.

    In the Masara area, Migori County, a man was killed after an explosion at a mining site. The owners of the site were arrested following the incident, police said. The deceased was identified as Tom Mboya and had been injured as he and others used explosive devices to mine gold at the site.

    The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

    Meanwhile in Luanda Town, Vihiga County, a matatu was burnt to ashes in a fire that started from a garbage site.

    The matatu was parked outside the local police station gate when the fire broke out. This was after an unknown person set fire on a heap of garbage that was there pending collection. The fire spread and engulfed the matatu, police and witnesses said.

    Local officials are investigating the incident. No injuries were reported in the January 20 incident.
