A 60-year-old woman was electrocuted as she mopped her house in Elukhogo village, Vihiga County.

Police said Margret Timina was found dead in her house with the mopping tools next to the body long after the incident.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures, police said adding the family was advised to seek compensation from the Kenya Power officials in the area.

Officials blame such incidents on illegal power connections and use of quacks in wiring processes.

Elsewhere in Voi, Taita Taveta County, a man was electrocuted as he tried to vandalise a power transformer.

Police said his body was found lying next to the transformer long after the incident. The incident led to a power blackout in the Mbirikani area before Kenya Power officials were informed to come and fix it. Such incidents have been on the rise in villages where thieves target transformers for vandalism. There is a campaign ongoing against the trend.

Meanwhile, a cow was electrocuted in Geterere village, Keumbu, Kisii County. This was after it stepped on a live naked cable on the roadside in the area. Kenya Power officials visited the scene and confirmed the cow had stepped on the naked cable that lay after a pole fell at the scene. The owner of the cow was advised to seek compensation from the Kenya Power offices in the area.

And police in Macalder, Migori County are investigating an incident where a herder drowned. The man identified as Abraham Otieno, 23 was taking a bath at river Kuja when he slipped in and drowned. His body was also swept downstream. Police said the man’s clothes and shoes were found on the river bank where he was taking the bath.

The search for the body continued on Monday February 9 following the Saturday incident.

The river empties to Lake Victoria and is usually swollen at that point.
