A 14-year-old boy died after being crushed against a gate pillar as he hung out of a school bus in Kimende, Kiambu County.
The deceased was a student at ACK St Paul Academy, Kereita. The student was among a group that was returning from Gituamba Primary School after a soccer competition on February 8, 2026, when the incident happened, police and witnesses said.
The group had finished the day’s activities and were returning to their school on a bus. On reaching the gate of the school, the Grade nine pupil stretched his head outside through the window oblivious of the dangers ahead.
He was at the back seat of the bus. The gate pillar crushed him fatally. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.
The incident threw the fraternity to mourning as the body was moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.
Meanwhile, police are investigating three separate drowning incidents that were recorded on Sunday alone.
The first incident happened in Navakholo, Kakamega County’s Lusumu village where the body of Sebastian Siganga, 44 was found floating on a river.
Police said the body was found on the banks of river Lusumu long after his floating. The man had gone missing on February 5, 2026 prompting a search in the area. The body had visible injuries when it was discovered and moved to the mortuary pending investigations, police said.
Elsewhere in Nkondi, Tharaka Nithi County a 12-year-old grade six boy at Kiorimba Primary School drowned in a local river.
Police said the boy drowned in River Kathita as he and his friends swam there.
His body was retrieved and moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.
In Kitengela, Kajiado County’s Ostrich Farm, a 24-year-old man drowned at a swimming pool.
Police said Daniel Wamuigu was among a group that had visited the farm and decided to swim at a swimming pool there when he drowned. He was rushed to a hospital in the area where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.
The body of the victim was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
