    Career

Hamelin’s career in short track speed skating spanned over a decade, marked by steady progression and key contributions to Canada’s relay successes.

He made his debut on the international scene in the mid-2000s, earning recognition as Speed Skating Canada’s Rising Star in 2008 after his world championship debut that year.

Between 2006 and 2010, he established himself as a strong contender, particularly in the 500m distance, where he secured two world titles.

His Olympic journey began at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games, his home-country Olympics, where he contributed to Canada’s gold medal in the men’s 5000m relay.

He returned for the Sochi 2014 and PyeongChang 2018 Olympics, participating in three Games overall and adding to his experience in high-stakes relay competitions.

Known for his speed and tactical racing, Hamelin often teamed up with his brother Charles and other top Canadian skaters like Olivier Jean.

After retiring from competition, he transitioned into other ventures, including co-founding Balboa Sport and maintaining an active lifestyle as a marathoner and sports enthusiast.

    Accolades

Hamelin’s most prominent achievement is his gold medal in the men’s 5000m relay at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, earned alongside teammates including his brother Charles.

This victory stands as the highlight of his Olympic career and contributed to Canada’s strong showing in short track at the home Games.

He also claimed two world championship titles in the 500m event during his peak years.

Additional accolades include multiple podium finishes at World Cup events and national championships, as well as his role in relay successes at various international competitions.
