    Siblings

Sheryl has two younger siblings, a brother named David Sandberg and a sister named Michelle Sandberg.

David has carved out a distinguished career in medicine as a pediatric neurosurgeon and researcher, dedicating his professional life to saving children’s lives through complex brain surgeries and related studies.

He has gained recognition for his expertise, including authoring a memoir titled “Brain and Heart” that details his experiences in the field, which Sheryl has publicly celebrated and discussed with him in interviews.

Michelle works as a pediatrician, contributing to children’s healthcare in her own capacity.

    Career

Sandberg’s professional journey began after she graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College with a degree in economics in 1991, followed by an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Early in her career, she worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company.

She then entered public service as chief of staff to U.S. Treasury Secretary Larry Summers during the Clinton administration.

In 2001, she joined Google, where she served as vice president of global online sales and operations, helping scale the company’s advertising business significantly.

In 2008, Mark Zuckerberg recruited her to Meta Platforms (then Facebook) as chief operating officer, a role she held until 2022.

As COO, she was instrumental in turning the company into a profitable powerhouse by building its advertising model and expanding its global reach.

She also became the first woman to serve on Meta’s board of directors.

Beyond corporate roles, Sandberg founded LeanIn.Org, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women in the workplace through resources, circles, and advocacy.

She authored the bestselling book “Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead” in 2013, which sparked global conversations about gender dynamics in professional settings, followed by “Lean In for Graduates.”

After stepping down from Meta, she has continued her advocacy work and philanthropy, including through the Sheryl Sandberg & Dave Goldberg Family Foundation.

    Accolades

Sandberg has been consistently ranked among the most powerful women in business by Fortune magazine and has appeared on Forbes’ list of the world’s 100 most powerful women multiple times.

In 2012, Time magazine included her in its Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world.

Her book “Lean In” achieved critical and commercial success, becoming a bestseller and earning a shortlist nomination for the Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award.

Sandberg’s impact extends to her pioneering role as a female executive in tech, where she helped shape one of the world’s largest companies while advocating for greater representation and opportunity for women.
