A suspected robber was shot dead while two others were arrested following a late-night police operation in Githurai 44, Nairobi, after a robbery with violence incident targeting a member of the public.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, March 17, at around 12:15am in the Budalangi area, within Kasarani Sub-County, police said.

Police said a team on patrol received a tip-off from members of the public about three suspects who had attacked and robbed a man.

The officers immediately launched a pursuit of the suspects.

During the chase, one of the suspects was confronted in the Soweto area. Police say he was armed with a knife and attempted to stab one of the officers, narrowly missing him but slashing his jacket. In response, the officers shot and fatally wounded him.

The two remaining suspects were arrested shortly after the pursuit and taken into custody and positively identified by the victim as the individuals involved in the robbery.

Police recovered a mobile phone believed to belong to the complainant, as well as the knife allegedly used by the deceased suspect.

The body of the deceased was found lying on its back with a gunshot wound to the left side and was later moved to the City Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Authorities have launched further investigations into the incident as efforts continue to address cases of violent crime in the area.

Police say they have enhanced operations to address cases of robberies. This was after some residents said they were being attacked in estates by suspects who rob them of their valuables.

In Murang’a’s Ndakaini area, a man was found murdered and his body dumped in a river.

The body of Stephene Mwangi, 41 was found decomposed in Rwathika River long after his murder.

He had been reported missing by his relatives since March 4, 2026.

Police said they are investigating murder and they had not established the motive of the sama.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
