DJ Paul, born Paul Duane Beauregard on January 12, 1977, in Memphis, Tennessee, is a renowned American rapper, record producer, DJ, and entrepreneur.
He rose to prominence as a founding member of the influential hip hop group Three 6 Mafia, which pioneered the crunk and horrorcore subgenres in Southern rap.
Known for his innovative production techniques, turntable skills, and dark, gritty lyrical style, DJ Paul has shaped much of modern trap and Memphis rap sounds through his work with the group and his solo endeavors.

DJ Paul comes from a family with notable connections in both music and other spheres.
His most prominent family tie in the music world was his relationship with the late rapper Lord Infamous (real name Ricky Dunigan), who was long described as his half-brother and a key collaborator in Three 6 Mafia’s early days.
They formed the duo The Serial Killaz in 1989, laying groundwork for what became Three 6 Mafia.
Lord Infamous passed away in 2013 from a heart attack.
Career
DJ Paul’s career began in the late 1980s when he focused initially on DJing and production rather than rapping.

Growing up in Memphis, he took piano lessons as a child and started creating music with family members.
In 1989, he teamed up with Lord Infamous to form The Serial Killaz, self-releasing mixtapes and building a local following.
By 1991, they connected with Juicy J, leading to the formation of Three 6 Mafia (originally known as Backyard Posse and later evolving through various names).
The group gained underground fame in the 1990s with horror-themed lyrics, heavy bass production, and raw Memphis street narratives, releasing influential albums like Mystic Stylez (1995) and Chapter 2: World Domination (1997).
They achieved mainstream breakthrough in the 2000s with hits such as “Stay Fly,” “Poppin’ My Collar,” and especially “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp” from the film Hustle & Flow.
DJ Paul has also pursued solo work, releasing albums like Underground Volume 16: For Da Summa and A Person of Interest, while producing for numerous artists and expanding into ventures like owning part of FaZe Clan.
His contributions extended to soundtracks, reality TV appearances with Three 6 Mafia, and ongoing production in hip hop.

The group’s most historic accolade came in 2006 when they won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp,” making them the first hip hop group to receive an Oscar.
