Ryan Armour is an American professional golfer born on February 27, 1976, in Akron, Ohio.

He grew up in the Silver Lake area and developed a deep passion for golf from a young age, influenced by his family’s connection to the game.

Armour attended Walsh Jesuit High School, where he excelled in golf, and later played collegiately at Ohio State University.

He turned professional in 1999 and has built a career characterized by perseverance, competing across the PGA Tour, Korn Ferry Tour, and other circuits while balancing family life and club professional duties in recent years.

    Siblings

Ryan has one brother named Mike Armour.

His parents are David Armour, a longtime golf professional, and Jude Armour of Silver Lake, Ohio.

The family has maintained a relatively private profile outside of Ryan’s professional achievements, with emphasis often placed on his immediate family.

    Career

Armour’s professional journey spans more than 25 years and is defined by steady determination through the developmental tours before achieving PGA Tour success later in his career.

After a standout amateur period that included All-Big Ten honors at Ohio State and a medalist title in the Big Ten Championship, he turned pro and initially competed on the Golden Bear Tour and Korn Ferry Tour (then Nationwide/Web.com Tour).

He earned his first notable professional win at the 2016 Panama Claro Championship on the Web.com Tour.

At age 41 in 2017, Armour broke through on the PGA Tour with a wire-to-wire victory at the Sanderson Farms Championship, defeating the field by five strokes in a dominant performance.

This win marked him as a PGA Tour champion and came after years of grinding through inconsistent results, injuries, and near-misses.

He has made limited starts in major championships, including appearances in the U.S. Open, PGA Championship, and The Open, often qualifying through local or final stages after persistent attempts.

In recent years, Armour has served as a club professional, including time as head professional at Canterbury Golf Club in Ohio, while continuing to compete on the PGA Tour and transitioning toward the PGA Tour Champions after turning 50.

He has also been actively involved in family life, frequently mentioning how his wife Erin and sons Patrick and Nicholas have provided motivation and structure to his routine.

    Accolades

Armour’s signature accomplishment is the 2017 Sanderson Farms Championship title on the PGA Tour, supplemented by his 2016 Korn Ferry Tour victory at the Panama Claro Championship and earlier success on the Golden Bear Tour.

In his amateur days, he earned induction into the Walsh Jesuit Hall of Fame and the Summit County Sports Hall of Fame for his high school and collegiate accomplishments.

More recently, in 2024, he was inducted into the Ohio Golf Association Hall of Fame, recognizing his impact on the state’s golf landscape.

Armour was also named the 2024 Northern Ohio PGA Teacher & Coach of the Year for his work as a club professional and mentor.

He has reached a career-high position inside the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking and has been praised for his longevity and ability to compete at a high level well into his 40s, including qualifying for his first U.S. Open in 2023 after decades of attempts.
