A devastating fire incident in Nairobi’s Kayole area claimed the life of a three-year-old child and left a family counting losses after their house was reduced to ashes.

According to police, the fire broke out on the night of April 24, 2026, at around 11:04 p.m. in Sulami area within Kayole Sub-County.

Police responded swiftly to the distress call and arrived at the scene, where they established that a house belonging to a woman had been engulfed in flames.

With the help of members of the public, the fire was eventually contained, but not before it caused significant damage.

Tragically, the woman’s three-year-old son, perished in the inferno.

The fire also destroyed property of unknown value.

The body of the minor was moved to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.

Police have since processed the scene and launched investigations to determine the cause of the fire.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report emergencies promptly to prevent similar tragedies.

Elsewhere, a fire incident at Loiyangalani Police Station in Marsabit County destroyed a residential structure housing six police officers, leaving them without shelter and personal belongings.

The incident occurred on April 24, 2026, at around 4:30 p.m., according to police.

Preliminary findings indicate that the fire started when officers were preparing tea outside the wooden structure using firewood. Strong winds are said to have fanned the flames, causing the fire to spread rapidly to the nearby building.

The structure, which was made of wood, was completely razed in the blaze, resulting in the loss of several personal items, including officers’ kits and household goods.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.

Authorities have not yet established the total value of the property destroyed, as assessments are ongoing.

Police have since urged caution when handling open flames, especially in areas prone to strong winds, to prevent similar incidents.
