Police are investigating an attempted theft incident that was reported at the residence of High Court Judge Nixon Sifuna in Kisii County.

According to police, unknown individuals broke into the compound of the judge’s home in the Milimani area at 3:00 a.m. on April 27, 2026.

The suspects targeted the judge’s official motor vehicle, an Isuzu, which was parked within the compound.

They smashed the rear right quarter glass in an apparent attempt to gain access to the vehicle, police said.

However, the vehicle’s alarm system was triggered during the break-in, alerting Justice Sifuna, who woke up and prompted the suspects to flee the scene before stealing anything.

Police officers visited the scene shortly after the incident. Investigations into the attempted theft are currently ongoing.

No arrests have been made so far.

Police said they want to understand if the thieves knew whose compound it was when they staged the incident. It is not clear what they were targeting.

The judges are usually protected by a special squad but the judiciary has been complaining that the personnel are not enough.

Kenya Judiciary Police Unit (JPU) is a specialized National Police Service (NPS) unit established in 2021 to provide dedicated security to judicial officers, staff, and premises across the country.

Currently commanded by Ramadhan Omar, the unit addresses security challenges and aims to enhance the safety of the justice system
