    Siblings

Aatu has an older brother, Aku Räty, who is also a professional hockey player.

Born on July 5, 2001, Aku plays as a right winger and was drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the fifth round (151st overall) of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

Their father, Tuomo Räty, was involved in coaching youth hockey with Kärpät, which helped nurture both sons’ talents.

    Career

Räty made his Liiga debut at age 16 with Kärpät and scored his first professional goal in the same game.

He was once considered a potential first overall pick for the 2021 NHL Draft but experienced a dip in production during the 2020-21 season, which caused him to slide to the second round.

After being drafted by the Islanders, he signed an entry-level contract and split time between Liiga teams and the AHL’s Bridgeport Islanders.

He made his NHL debut for the Islanders on December 23, 2022, scoring his first career NHL goal against the Florida Panthers.

In January 2023, he was traded to the Vancouver Canucks in the deal that sent Bo Horvat to New York, along with Anthony Beauvillier.

With Vancouver, Räty has split time between the NHL club and the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks.

He has shown strong two-way play and offensive upside, contributing as a versatile forward.

In 2024-25, he was part of Abbotsford’s Calder Cup championship team, though he left one playoff game due to injury.

The brothers’ paths occasionally crossed on the ice, adding a unique family element to their professional journeys.

    Accolades

In his junior years with Kärpät, Räty earned multiple U16 SM-sarja honors, such as All-Star Team selections, Best Forward, Best Player, and Most Points awards, along with silver medals.

Internationally, he represented Finland at various junior levels, including the World Junior Championships, where he posted strong performances like 10 points in seven games in 2022.
