Police in Baringo County are investigating an incident in which a 15-year-old boy was killed after reportedly stepping on an abandoned explosive device in Tiaty West Sub-county.

The incident occurred on Friday morning in the Toplen area of Silale Location.

The victim was walking through the area when he allegedly stepped on what is suspected to have been an abandoned bomb, triggering an explosion.

Police said the teenager sustained severe injuries to the head and hands and died at the scene.

Authorities have launched investigations to establish the origin and nature of the suspected explosive device. Further details were not immediately available.

Meanwhile, police in Baringo County have opened a murder investigation following the death of a nurse whose post-mortem examination revealed injuries consistent with an assault.

The nurse was found unconscious at his home in Kaprogonya Village, about four kilometres west of Kabarnet Police Station, on July 2, 2026, after his son, raised the alarm.

Family members rushed him to Baringo County Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The deceased had been working as a nurse at the same hospital and was last seen on duty on July 1, 2026, when he reportedly completed his shift and handed over duties while in good health.

On July 9, the hospital administration and family members arranged for a clinical post-mortem examination. The pathologist concluded that the nurse died from hypovolemic shock caused by a splenic injury.

The examination also revealed bruising of the deep muscles on the left hand, suggesting the deceased may have been attacked and attempted to defend himself.

The findings prompted the family and hospital administration to report the matter to police.

Investigators subsequently ordered a second forensic post-mortem examination, which was conducted on Friday and confirmed the initial findings.

Police have since opened a case file and launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the nurse’s death and identify those responsible.
