Police in Kakamega County are investigating the death of a 32-year-old teacher whose body was recovered from River Sasada, days after he was last seen at his workplace.

The deceased was identified as Dickson Muganda, a teacher at Butere Girls High School.

According to police, the incident was reported on Tuesday afternoon by a resident, who alerted authorities after spotting a body floating in the river in Eshisiru Sub-location, Butsotso Central Location.

Police officers visited the scene and established that the body had already been retrieved from the flowing water by local residents and placed on the riverbank.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Muganda was last seen on Friday, July 10, while at his place of work at Butere Girls High School.

Crime scene investigators processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Kakamega County General Hospital Mortuary, where it will be preserved pending a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the teacher’s death.

Elsewhere, police in Rachuonyo East Sub-County, Homa Bay County, have arrested a woman after her husband was found dead under suspicious circumstances at their home in Kasewe A Sub-location.

According to police, the incident was reported on Tuesday by a local resident, Leonel Otieno, who alerted officers to a suspected murder.

A team of police rushed to the scene, where they found the body of Meshack Orwa lying lifeless on a bed inside a semi-permanent house.

A preliminary examination revealed that the deceased had bruises on the neck, visible facial injuries believed to have been inflicted by a blunt object, and blood oozing from his mouth.

Police said the deceased’s wife, who has been arrested as the prime suspect, told investigators that she arrived home at about 8:00 p.m. on Monday and found her husband asleep. She claimed she asked him for water to drink but he remained asleep. Believing he was heavily intoxicated because he was a habitual drinker, she said she did not disturb him further and later went to bed beside him.

The woman told police that when she attempted to wake him at around 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, she discovered he was unresponsive.

Crime scene investigators processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Jawabu Funeral Home for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.

The suspect is being held in police custody as detectives continue with investigations and seek appropriate court orders as the murder probe continues.
