Police in Machakos County have launched investigations after a partially decomposed body of a man was discovered in a shallow grave near the banks of the Mukengesya River in Masinga Sub-County.

The gruesome discovery was made on Friday afternoon when a herder was taking his livestock to a watering point along the Mukengesya River in Mukengesya Village, Kithyoko Sub-location.

According to police, the man became suspicious after his dogs began fighting with other dogs in a nearby farm. On checking the area, he found the dogs digging up what appeared to be a human arm from a shallow grave.

He chased the dogs away, raised the alarm and reported the incident to Kithyoko Police Station.

Police officers visited the scene, where they exhumed a partially buried body from the farm belonging to one Justus Kiio Kakuku.

The body was identified as that of an African male adult of middle age and was already partially decomposed, indicating it had been buried for some time.

Scenes of crime personnel processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Machakos Level Five Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination and identification.

Police have launched investigations to establish the identity of the deceased, the circumstances surrounding the killing, and those responsible. No arrests had been made by the time of filing the report.

And police in Kilifi County have launched investigations into the murder of a 65-year-old village elder who was fatally shot with an arrow while on his way to his farm in Malindi Sub-County.

The body of Amos Masha Luganje was discovered on Friday afternoon near a thicket in Nyamala Village.

Police officers visited the scene and found the deceased lying on his back. A bow and an arrow stained with blood, as well as a wheelbarrow, were recovered beside the body.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Luganje had left his home at around 11 a.m. to work on his farm, pushing a wheelbarrow. He is believed to have been ambushed about one kilometre from his home by an unknown assailant who shot him with an arrow. The arrow entered through his back and lodged in his chest, killing him on the spot.

Police said Luganje had served as the village elder of Nyamala for the past 13 years.

Investigators are also looking into reports that the deceased had recently been involved in a relationship with another man’s wife. Although the dispute had reportedly been resolved amicably by local administrators, it led to the separation of Luganje and his wife, who returned to her parents’ home.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Malindi Sub-County Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

No arrests have been made, and police say investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind the killing and identify those responsible.
