Police in Ruiru, Kiambu County, launched a manhunt for a man after his wife was found dead inside their rented single-room house in Kihunguro.

The body of Mercy Kananu Bundi, 33, was discovered on Monday, August 10, 2026, after her younger sister returned from work and found the door to the house closed from outside.

The sister said she left for work at about 6 am, leaving her elder sister asleep with her husband. She returned at about 7.30 pm and found the door closed but unlocked, with a window slightly open.

She knocked several times but received no response. She then peeped through the window and saw her sister lying face down on the floor and apparently unresponsive.

She alerted other tenants, who helped open the door before the matter was reported to police. Police later visited the scene.

Police said the body had bleeding from the nose, strangulation marks around the neck and visible injuries on the upper arms.

The body was removed and taken to General Kago Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy to establish the exact cause of death.

The woman’s husband, could not be traced and is currently being sought by police as investigations into the suspected murder continue.

And a 50-year-old man was found dead inside his house in Kikuri Village, Tharaka West Sub-County, Tharaka Nithi County.

The body of Wilfred Muriithi was discovered on Monday, August 10, 2026, with the incident reported to police at about 5pm by his brother.

Police officers led by the Officer Commanding Nkondi Police Station, accompanied by a Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Tharaka South, visited the scene.

The body was found lying on a bed inside the house.

Preliminary investigations established that there were no visible external injuries on the body.

Family members told police that Muriithi had last been seen alive on Sunday at about 7.45pm while preparing food with his daughter, who later left the house.

The family also reported that the deceased had previously exhibited signs of depression and had not been in good health.

The CSI team processed, photographed and documented the scene before the body was removed and taken to Marimanti Level IV Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
