A 47-year-old man was found dead inside his house in Guu Village, Ndhiwa Sub-County, Homa Bay County, with his body already in a decomposing state.

The deceased was identified as George Ogola Juma.

Police officers visited the scene and found Juma’s body lying on a sofa chair inside his house.

Preliminary investigations established that the body was discovered after a woman who was working on her farm neighbouring the deceased’s compound, went to a nearby homestead to request drinking water.

She reportedly noticed a foul smell coming from the house, leading to the discovery of the body.

Police established that Juma was last seen alive on Tuesday, August 11.

The circumstances surrounding his death remained unclear, with police saying the cause of death could not immediately be established.

The scene was processed before the decomposed body was removed and taken to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.

Investigations into the death are ongoing.

Meanwhile, a 90-year-old man was burnt to death after a fire swept through three temporary structures in Karangareti Village, Tana River County, on Tuesday morning.

The deceased, identified as Mohamed Boru Hericha, an Orma elder, had reportedly been ill for a long period and was trapped inside one of the structures when the fire broke out.

His 40-year-old son sustained minor burn injuries while attempting to respond to the incident.

Police officers visited the scene following the incident, which was reported at about 10:30am.

They established that the three makeshift structures in the village, within Maramtu Sub-location, had been completely consumed by the fire.

Household property whose value had not been established was also destroyed in the inferno.

The cause of the fire had not been established, with police commencing investigations into the incident.

The scene was documented and necessary police procedures undertaken.

However, the local community declined to have Hericha’s remains removed for post-mortem examination and instead began burial arrangements in accordance with Islamic religious practices.
