Seven tourists are feared to have been involved in a helicopter crash near Kirish, close to Mt Ololokwe in Samburu County, on Wednesday morning.

Preliminary police reports indicate that the helicopter, operated by Lady Lori, had seven tourists on board when it went down in the remote area.

Police said rescue teams had been dispatched to the crash site following reports of smoke and fire from the wreckage.

Multiple local reports indicate that the aircraft was based at Loisaba and had picked up clients from Suiyan.
The tourists are said to have been booked through End Beyond Safaris, although these details had not been officially confirmed by authorities.

Local residents raised the alarm shortly after the crash, prompting the deployment of security officers, emergency medical teams and other responders to the area.

Reports also indicated that Nkurei warriors and other local responders were among those moving towards the crash site, while a second helicopter operated by Tropic Air was reported to have responded to the scene.

The rugged terrain around Mt Ololokwe is expected to complicate rescue operations, with responders working to reach the crash site and establish the condition of those aboard.

As of Wednesday afternoon, authorities had not officially confirmed the number of casualties, identities of those on board or whether there were any survivors.

Police also said details concerning the flight itinerary, the exact number of occupants and the circumstances leading to the crash remained preliminary.

Further information is expected as rescue teams reach the scene and authorities conduct an assessment of the wreckage.
