A 35-year-old man died after he was attacked and mauled by several stray dogs while walking home in Githunguri village, Kiambu County, in the early hours of Saturday.

The incident occurred at about 3am on August 22, 2026.

According to police, George Kimani Gitangia was attacked by several stray dogs while on his way home.

His cousin reportedly came across the dogs attacking a person and raised an alarm, attracting members of the public who responded and chased the animals away.

The rescuers discovered that the victim was Gitangia, who had sustained multiple injuries from dog bites across his body.

He was rushed to St Teresa Hospital in Kikuyu for treatment before being referred to Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi.

However, police said he succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the referral facility.

His body was moved to the Kenyatta National Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting further procedures.

Police have launched investigations into the incident, while efforts are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and the whereabouts of the stray dogs involved.

Police records described the deceased as a known habitual drunkard and a person of unsound mind.

And police in Kisumu are investigating the murder of a 20-year-old man who died after being stabbed in the neck during a confrontation over the movement of a funeral procession.

The deceased, identified as Roy Omondi, succumbed to his injuries at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) on Saturday, August 22, 2026, while undergoing treatment.

According to police, the incident occurred on Friday at about 4pm at the JOOTRH mortuary.

Omondi had reportedly been tasked with coordinating the procession as mourners prepared to transport the body of a relative from the mortuary to Nyamasaria.

Police said a man identified who was driving a tuk-tuk, blocked the way of the procession.

Omondi allegedly asked the tuk-tuk driver to park properly to allow the convoy to leave in an orderly manner.

The situation reportedly turned violent when Shadrack allegedly drew a knife from a jungle-green knife sheath and stabbed Omondi on the left side of his neck, inflicting a deep wound.

The suspect then fled the scene with the knife.

Omondi was immediately rushed to JOOTRH, where he was admitted in serious condition. Despite receiving treatment, he died early Saturday morning from the injuries.

Police officers visited and processed the scene.

A jungle-green knife sheath believed to be associated with the attack was recovered from the scene and preserved as an exhibit.

Omondi’s body was moved to the JOOTRH mortuary, where it is awaiting postmortem examination.

The suspect had not been arrested by the time of reporting, as detectives continued with investigations to establish his whereabouts and circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing.
