    Siblings

Tanishaa has one sibling, her elder sister Kajol, a highly acclaimed Bollywood actress known for her versatile performances and multiple award-winning roles.

Kajol is married to actor Ajay Devgn, making him Tanishaa’s brother-in-law.

The couple has two children, niece Nysa Devgan and nephew Yug Devgan.

The sisters share a close bond rooted in their upbringing within a joint family environment, where they were raised with the support of their grandmother and great-grandmother while their mother pursued her acting career.

    Career

Tanishaa began her professional journey in the mid-1990s as a video jockey, anchoring shows such as BPL Oye on Channel V.

She made her film debut in 2003 with the Hindi slasher thriller Sssshhh…, playing the lead role of Mahek Gujral opposite Karan Nath and Dino Morea.

The film received mixed-to-negative reviews and underperformed commercially.

Subsequent early releases, including the romantic comedy Popcorn Khao! Mast Ho Jao (2004) and the Yash Raj Films romantic comedy Neal ‘n’ Nikki (2005) opposite Uday Chopra, also faced critical and box-office challenges.

She reprised the role in the sequel Sarkar Raj (2008). She also appeared in the war drama Tango Charlie (2005).

In 2007, Tanishaa expanded into South Indian cinema with the Tamil romantic musical Unnale Unnale opposite Vinay Rai, which performed well commercially and earned positive notices for her performance.

She followed this with roles in the Telugu film Kantri (2008) and the Hindi comedy One Two Three (2008).

After a period of fewer leading opportunities, she marked a significant return in 2013 by participating as a contestant on the reality show Bigg Boss 7 on Colors TV.

She finished as the first runner-up. She later appeared as a judge on Gangs of Haseepur.

She also competed on Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 7, finishing in fourth place. She later took part in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 11.

Additional film credits include Be-Careful (2011), Anna (2016), Code Name Abdul (2021), and Luv You Shankar (2024).

Her upcoming projects include the Marathi-Hindi film Veer Murarbaji. She has also co-produced Son of Sardaar (2012).

    Accolades

For her debut in Sssshhh…, Tanishaa earned a nomination for Most Promising Debut Actress at the Sansui Viewer’s Choice Awards.

She also received a Jury’s Choice nomination for Superstar of Tomorrow – Female at the Stardust Awards in 2004.

Her performance in the Tamil film Unnale Unnale brought a nomination for Best Debut Actress at the Stardust Awards.

She also received a nomination at the Vijay Awards for Best Debut Female.

In later years, she won a Brand Impact Award for Outstanding Debut on OTT for the short film LIFE IS SHORT (A Motivational Story) in 2021.
