Police in Kilifi are investigating the murder of a 74-year-old man whose body was found dumped in a thicket along Boatyard Road.
Charo Kikotero had reportedly left his home on September 18, 2026, at about 8am but did not return, prompting his family to report him missing.
A missing-person alert was circulated on September 20.
Later, the deceased’s family received a message sent from Kikotero’s mobile phone indicating that his body had been dumped along Boatyard Road.
They found the body lying deep inside a thicket in the Boatyard area. Police said the body had been decapitated, with the deceased’s head missing. A search for the head was still ongoing.
Crime Scene Investigation officers processed the scene before the body was removed and taken to Kilifi County Hospital Mortuary for preservation pending a postmortem examination.
Detectives have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding Kikotero’s killing and identify those responsible.
The motive of the murder was not immediately known, police said on Monday amid ongoing investigations.
And a 48-year-old man died after allegedly being attacked and seriously injured by his neighbour in Uriri, Migori County.
Patrick Mwiremi was reportedly attacked on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at about 9am by his neighbour, police said.
Mwiremi sustained serious injuries to his throat, cheek and chest during the alleged machete attack.
He was rushed to St Joseph Mission Hospital Omboo for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police officers from Uriri Police Station visited the primary and secondary scenes as investigations into the incident commenced.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, with detectives investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal confrontation.
Mwiremi’s body was moved to the hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Meanwhile a factory operator died after reportedly slipping and falling while at work at a factory in Makio, Majengo Kanamai, Kilifi South Sub-County.
The incident occurred at about 4:15am on Sunday at Nicowaste Investment Limited, where the deceased was working as a main operator.
According to preliminary nvestigations, the man slipped while at his workstation, fell and sustained serious injuries, dying at the scene.
Police visited the scene and found the body lying beside a machine adding the deceased had visible injuries to the back of his head, particularly around the occipital region.
The scene was photographed and documented as investigators began probing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The body was later moved to the Coast General Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
Police said witnesses are expected to record statements as investigations continue to establish what led to the fatal fall.
