Isabelle Eleanor Chih Ming Wong, known as Issy Wong, is an English professional cricketer born on 15 May 2002 in Chelsea, London.
She is a right-handed batter and right-arm fast-medium bowler who has represented England in Tests, One Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals since making her international debut in 2022.
Wong has Chinese-Macanese heritage through her father Dom Wong and English roots through her mother Rachael Wong, a freelance writer specialising in cricket topics who is originally from Yorkshire.
She attended Bentley Heath Primary School in Solihull and later Shrewsbury School, where she became the first girl to play for the boys’ first XI.
She discovered cricket through a Chance to Shine after-school scheme and played club cricket at Knowle and Dorridge as the only girl in a boys’ team.
Wong is also a Liverpool FC supporter, plays Eton Fives at a high level, and is known for solving a Rubik’s Cube quickly.
Siblings
Issy has one younger brother named Buster Wong.
The family lives in the Birmingham area and has provided strong support for her cricket career.
While Buster keeps a relatively low public profile, he is noted as being proud of his sister’s achievements and present throughout her journey in the sport.
Career
Wong progressed rapidly through Warwickshire’s age-group system and made her senior domestic debut in the late 2010s.

She featured for Worcestershire briefly, then established herself with Warwickshire, winning the Women’s Twenty20 Cup with them in 2019.
She played for Southern Vipers in the Women’s Cricket Super League that same year as one of the competition’s youngest participants.
From 2020 she became a key figure for Central Sparks in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and Charlotte Edwards Cup, taking notable hauls including a five-wicket spell.
She has also appeared on loan for Western Storm.
In franchise cricket she has represented Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred, Sydney Thunder in the Women’s Big Bash League, where she once hit six sixes in an innings, and later other Australian sides including Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Renegades.
In the Women’s Premier League she played for Mumbai Indians.
Wong made her England Test debut against South Africa in June 2022 at Taunton, followed quickly by her ODI and T20I debuts in the same series.
She has earned a central contract and featured in Commonwealth Games cricket.
Known for her pace exceeding 70 mph and energetic style, she has balanced international duties with strong domestic and overseas performances, including periods of injury and form challenges followed by returns to the England setup.
Accolades
Wong’s standout individual achievement came in the inaugural Women’s Premier League in 2023, when she became the first bowler to take a hat-trick in the competition, finishing with figures of 4 for 15 in the eliminator for Mumbai Indians against UP Warriorz.
She contributed further wickets as Mumbai Indians went on to win the title.
Domestically she was part of Warwickshire’s 2019 Women’s Twenty20 Cup-winning side and ranked among the leading wicket-takers in the 2021 Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.
She has received player-of-the-match awards in domestic and franchise matches and earned recognition as one of the early full Chance to Shine participants to reach the England senior team.
